Ways to calm yourself down when life gets tough!

RELAX!
RELAX!

We all face stressful situations in life. It is not about how tough the situation is, it is about how you react to it. There are many ways to calm yourself down when you feel overwhelmed but your comeback should be stronger after the break.

BREATH:

Breathing exercise has a number of benefits and it is the most effective technique to reduce stress, anxiety, and anger. When you are stressed, anxious, or angry, your breath gets quick and shallow. These situations send a signal to your brain which reinforces your fight or flight response. So, taking long and deep breaths may calm you down in such situations.

SIT DOWN:

Sit down, relax your body, calm down and write. Drink chilled water and wash your face with cold water. Write down the reasons that is causing anxiety, write down that problem. When you write it, you are halfway there. It helps you to remove the negative thoughts in your head. And do not forget to surround yourself with people who motivate you.

WALK:

Walking may help you in clearing your mind. If you are tense, and the atmosphere is packed and suffocating, this might in turn cause panic. Go out, get some fresh air, and clear your mind. Change in the atmosphere can help you in getting a new perspective and calm you down.

SELF-INDULGENCE CAN HELP:

Sometimes when you are angry or you are being frustrated and have a lack of motivation, you do not have to quit. You just need to recharge yourself. Just take a day off so that you can spend a day doing exactly what you want, just like you take a power nap for recharging. Some ideas for indulging may also include skincare, having your favorite dessert, or visiting any place you like or want to visit. I would prefer to sit undisturbed in a restaurant or a café where there are fewer or no people so that I can get lost in my own world.

PREPARE YOURSELF:

In order to avoid situations like stress or anxiety, the best thing you can do is prepare yourself for such situations. Overthinkers will understand what I am saying exactly. Make a to-do list for the day, the evening before. This will help you in avoiding situations where you tend to become fussy or clumsy due to anxiety.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:

Maintain a journal and write all the things you are grateful for. When life is being tough with you, write down at least ten of your strengths and be grateful to GOD that you have them in you. And then you write down 10 of your weaknesses and be grateful that you recognize that you have those weaknesses, for the biggest flaw is a lack of self-awareness.

KEEP MOVING FORWARD:

As usual, I will not want you to quit because it is easy to quit but it is a lot more difficult to start the task all over again. Keep moving forward even if those steps are tiny steps. Little progress is also progress.

PRACTICE YOUR HOBBIES:

Practicing hobbies will help you in relaxing and will make you happy and confident. If you do not have any hobbies then you can create one. Be silly and do not take every bad thing that happens to you seriously. If your hobby is reading, read a motivational book for an energy boost.

STOP THE NEGATIVE TALK:

Negative self-talk can have a disastrous effect on your mental health and self-esteem. Be more positive and help yourself in building your self-confidence. Remind yourself that your life is a beautiful journey and whatever bad happens is temporary and it is not your final destination.

MEDITATE:

Meditation or mindfulness can help you in concentrating on your work or studies and help you to keep calm in stressful situations. Just close your eyes and visualize your calm self and relax your mind. A hot shower will help you to relax.

Some people prefer music as an escape to get over all the overwhelming situations in life. Another task that helps in relaxing is de-cluttering your room. Decorate your room and sit silently doing nothing.
