LAYLATUL QADR
THE NIGHT BETTER THAN THOUSAND MONTHS
LAYLATUL QADR is the night of forgiveness. There is an entire surah in the holy Quran dedicated to this one night and it shows the great importance and virtue of this night.
ALLAH SWT SAYS IN THE HOLY QURAN
- Indeed, we sent the holy Quran down on the night of Qadr
- And what makes you realize what the night of Qadr is?
- The night of Qadr (decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e worshipping Allah on that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, / 83 years and 4 months)
- Therein descend the angels and Ruh (Jibreel A.S) by Allah’s permission
- Peace (in that night there is peace and goodness from Allah SWT for his believers) until the rising of dawn

WHEN IS LAYLATUL QADR?
Prophet Mohammed Sallallahu alaihi wasallam (PBUH) said: Seek out Laylatul qadr on the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan (Bukhari)
WHAT TO DO?
The best deed for Laylatul Qadr is Qiyam. Qiyam means night prayer and is one of the best acts of worship. Salah, reciting the Quran, zikr, and asking Allah for forgiveness should be done more on this night. And these deeds must be performed with
- IMAN, i.e firm belief that ALLAH SWT has asked us to do this, loves this deed, and will reward us
- IHTISAB, i.e seek reward only from Allah and perform it sincerely for him alone and not for any other motive
SIGNS OF LAYLATUL QADR
THE MOON
Abu Huraira (RA) said: We were talking about Laylatul Qadr in the presence of the Prophet Mohammed (SAW) (PBUH), and he said: “He who amongst you remembers (the night of decree) when the moon arose, and it was like a piece of plate.”
PEACEFUL NIGHT
We know that Laylatul Qadr will be on a peaceful night from this verse: “Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
LAST ODD NIGHTS
Prophet Mohammed Sallallahu alaihi wasallam (PBUH) said: Seek out Laylatul Qadr on the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan
THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF RAIN
There are narrations where Prophet Mohammed (SAW)(PBUH) mentioned that he dreamed about Laylatul Qadr and in that dream he had prostrated and when he came up, his face was wet with rainwater mud. (Al-Bukhari, 813)
Laylatul Qadr is the night of forgiveness. Allah SWT loves to forgive and pardon us; He also loves for us to forgive each other. As Muslims (ummatis), we should eliminate the negativity in our hearts and ask Allah SWT for hidayah.
